Bismarck is the capital of North Dakota and the county seat of Burleigh County. Bismarck is situated on the east bank of the Missouri River, directly across the river from Mandan, North Dakota.It ranks second in population next to Fargo with about 61,000 residents.
The community of Bismarck was founded in 1872. It has served as the capital of the state since 1889.
