Fort Yates is located in southwestern North Dakota. It is a small community of about 200 residents located in Sioux County, North Dakota. Fort Yates is the tribal headquarters of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and the county seat of Sioux County.

The ghost of a woman wearing all black has been reported running or walking along the road at Black Tongue Hill. Some have referred to her as “Old Lady Black Tongue”.
