There are tales of Jesse James escaping to the Brook Forest area in 1876 after the Northfield Minnesota Bank Robbery to bury loot for safekeeping.
The hotel was built on Arapahoe and Ute Indian hunting grounds in 1919. The original owners operated the inn until 1946. Since that time it has had several different owners.
The Welzes were the original owners of the inn. They had a son born on June 11, 1911. He passed away on March 25, 1922 of pneumonia.
The stable hand was rumored to have strangulated his lover in the Ambassador Suite and then walked up the street to the stables and hung himself.
This location was researched by the Rocky Mountain Paranormal Research Society.
