Church Road Cemetery
Portage is located in south central Wisconsin near Madison in Columbia County. It is a moderately sized community of about 11,000 residents.

Church Road Cemetery is located on a dead end. It is located west of Portage, Wisconsin on County Highway O. It is 6 miles to Church Road. Take a right and continue for ½ of a mile. The cemetery is located on the left side of the road.
Church Road Cemetery Information:
The Church Road Cemetery is managed by the township. The cemetery is no longer active (there are no more burials taking place here).
A number of online sources made mention of an old church that was once located near the cemetery. Some of these sources said that the church burned down, when in fact it was sold to a man named Hugo Meyer, who moved the structure to Dekorra. The church (St. Micheal’s Lutheran Church) was in operation from 1859 to 1927.
Church Road Cemetery Rumors:
Locals claim that there was once a Missouri Synod Lutheran Church at the site where the Church Road Cemetery is located. The church purportedly burned down.
Haunting at Church Road Cemetery:
Visitors to Church Road Cemetery have noted strange, disembodied voices in the area surrounding the cemetery as well as dark shadow people moving between headstones. The apparition of a young girl hanging from a tree has also been reported by a number of late night visitors. Sources have also reported smelling the smell of smoke.
Some people have taken ghost hunting tools with them to Church Road Cemetery. Apparently, EVP’s have been recorded.
