Where is Cry Baby Bridge in Franklin County Georgia?

Go past the high school as though you are heading toward Franklin Springs. Then, take the road that goes left to a little white building. Take the road where the T&S Skating Rink is. Continue on this road past Dead Man’s Curve. The bridge is in the vicinity of Dead Man’s Curve. Take the dirt road and continue on to the bridge.

According to one story told by Franklin County locals, many years ago a horse and carriage carrying a mother and her infant child went over the bridge on their way home. The horse got spooked and the carriage overturned. Both the baby and the mother were thrown out of the carriage and killed.  

Another story about Cry Baby Bridge involves the days before the Civil War when there were numerous plantations in this area. During this time, a slave owner had a secret affair with one of his female slaves. She became pregnant. The slave owner wanted to hide evidence of the illicit affair and so one day, after the baby was born, he took his wagon and ran the woman and her new infant off the bridge as they were going across it.

Ghosts of Cry Baby Bridge in Franklin County, Georgia:

Locals claim that if you park your car on the bridge, turn off your headlights, put your keys on the hood of the car, then get back in and close the doors and yell, “I killed your baby”, the doors of the car will lock. Another variation of this sequence involves saying, “Rosemary, I have your baby,” three times.  Apparitions of the bereaved mother is supposed to appear.

Visitors to the bridge sometimes report hearing disembodied voices or the sound of horse hooves. The sound of a baby crying is often heard at the bridge. Shadow figures have also been reported.

A nearby church is also purportedly haunted.

The Scott, AR Mama Lou’s Bridge is similar to this location in that visitors are encouraged to utter similar “magic words” to conjure ghosts. Indeed, Theorosa’s Bridge in Valley Center, KS also encourages the use of words to conjure entities from beyond.
