In January of 1859, independent miners struck gold in Blackhawk. Gregory Gulch was the site where miners focused their intense search for gold during the gold rush days (Moulton, 2006).
Blackhawk, and nearby Central City are both casino towns along CO 119 today (Moulton, 2006).
According to Shadowlands, a woman named “Lucille” committed suicide at the Guilpin Hotel Casino after finding out that her husband had been killed in a mining accident (Shadowlord, n.d.). Published on the Gilpin Casino website is the story of Lucille Malone, a woman who jumped to her death 100 years ago after learning that her lover had been run over by a wagon in front of the hotel. Apparently, a Gilpin Casino Manager was certain he saw a woman enter a second floor room, but upon approaching the room, no one was there (Gilpin Casino, 2007).
The apparition of a woman has been reported on second floor.
