Jewel Park’s main road was shut off at the time when we visited the park. The landscape of this park is very similar to that of Hummel Park, another haunted location in the Omaha, Nebraska area. Jewel Park though visually similar to Hummel Park, does not seem to suffer from some of gang related issues in Hummel Park.
Jewel Park consists of rolling hills speckled prolifically with large deciduous trees throughout. It is surrounded by residential properties. Just down the road (within walking distance) is Bellevue Cemetery, where the last of the Omaha chiefs (Chief Big Elk) is buried. The College Heights subdivision is right next door to this nearby cemetery.
For some reason, parks seem to be places that are often reported to be "haunted". Perhaps this has something to do with certain environmental qualities that utlimately lead to a park location becoming deemed worthy as a park-like-setting by the people in charge of the city. For example, a wooded, green, pretty location may be set aside as a park because it is aesthetically pleasing. On the other hand, some parks may start out as waste areas and then be transformed because of a "need" for a park like setting in the midst of a very urban area.
