Aberdeen is the county seat of Brown County, South Dakota. Aberdeen is located about 125 miles north of Pierre, South Dakota. The first settlers to the Aberdeen area arrived in 1880 and the city was incorporated by 1882. It is home to about 25,000 residents.
In 1900, Aberdeen had the fastest growing population in northern South Dakota. As a result, people began to see a need to find funding a put together a plan to create an institution of higher education. The school opened in September 1902.
Ghosts and Hauntings at Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota:
The fourth floor of Jerde Hall at Northern State University is purportedly haunted by a ghostly little girl. She is said to have appeared in mirrors and sitting at the end of a bed. One student apparently heard the disembodied voice of the little girl’s ghost giggling in the fourth floor hallway.
Johnson Fine Arts Center-
Visitors to the Johnson Fine Arts Center at Northern State University have reported hearing whistling in the men’s bathroom. Strange sounds have been reported. Lights turn on and off without explanation. People report that a feeling of eeriness and the sense that they need to leave quickly when they are in the front hallway at the Johnson Fine Arts Center.
