Oak Alley Plantation Haunting:
Visitors to Oak Alley Plantation report seeing the apparition of a woman on horseback riding through the long row of oak trees at the entrance to the plantation. They claim that she is looking for her husband.
The ghost of Mrs. Stewart has been seen in the lavender room by staff at the Oak Alley Plantation. A group of staff members were on their way to the parking lot when they noticed a light that had been left on in the lavender room. All had distinctly remembered turning the light off. Then, they saw the apparition of a woman who looked like Mrs. Stewart looking down from the window. All of them got in their cars and left immediately. As they drove away, they saw that the light in the lavender room was off and all the rooms were dark.
One staff member, while working alone at the mansion felt a presence and a touch on his arm.
A tour guide saw the apparition of an unknown figure seated on one of the beds in the lavender room and at another time, the ghost of man in gray wearing boots.
Two other tour guides one day heard a horse drawn carriage coming up the plantation gravel roads. They looked and saw a billowing cloud of dust on the road, but upon looking into it further found no one there. Other tour guides and staff members have had a similar experience with the phantom horse drawn carriage.
Staff have reported hearing disembodied crying sounds and seeing empty rocking chairs rocking back and forth in unison. A candlestick once flew across the room in front of 35 other witnesses who were touring Oak Alley.
