Brookings is located in Brookings County, South Dakota. It is home to about 20,000 residents.
Brookings County and Brookings the city both got their names from a pioneer promoter named Wilmot Wood Brookings. Wilmot Brookings set out for the South Dakota region in June of 1857 and arrived in what would later become Sioux Falls in August of 1857. He became one of the first settlers in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Some time later, Brookings and a friend set out for Yankton, South Dakota, representing the Western Town Company. On the way, his feet got frozen and he had to have them amputated.

Doner Auditorium is purportedly haunted by a janitor. Janitors are commonly blamed for hauntings throughout North America, particularly in schools. Indeed, a large number of janitors that fell from high places later reportedly come back to haunt the living. For example, Belle Fourche High School in Belle Fourche, South Dakota is supposedly haunted by the ghost of a janitor who fell to his death while fixing a burnt out light bulb.
The ghost at Doner Auditorium is said to cause primarily electrical and technical problems at Doner Auditorium.
