South Carolina was also the first state to declare secession at the beginning of the Civil War.
The Summersville Light in Summersville, South Carolina:
Locals claim that years ago, a woman would wait each night for her husband to come home from his work on the railroad. She would stand each night at midnight, holding his dinner and a lantern. One night, her husband didn’t come. Coworkers told her that the train had derailed and he had been decapitated. She was devastated and every night thereafter at midnight took her lantern and some dinner to go and meet him even though he was dead and buried. People say that she did this every night until her own death. Today, people still report seeing the ethereal light for this woman’s lantern each night at midnight.
The road that lead to the Summersville Light was blocked off in 2008. Police patrol this area heavily and aren’t afraid to detain curious people for trespassing.
Paranormal Events at Summersville:
People report seeing the lantern light far off in the distance at first. People who have seen this light all agree that at midnight, when the light appears, all sounds cease. They report a total eerie silence while the phenomena is being observed.
