History:
Green River was initially a stage station on the Overland Trail. A number of major emigrant trails passed through the area now known as Green River. It has been home to dinosaurs in its early history and later to the Shoshone and Ute Indians. The transcontinental railroad reached Green River in 1968 and became an important stop due to its proximity to water from the Bitter Creek and Green River. Prior to that time, mountain men were the first white men to frequent the area.
