South Carolina was one of the original 13 colonies that later became the United States. The proprietary colony of Carolina was first settled at Charles Town (Charleston) in 1670.
South Carolina was also the first state to declare secession at the beginning of the Civil War.

In most Cry Baby Bridge stories, a child is drowned in the river and the mother of the child haunts the bridge. At Cry Baby Bridges, people also frequently report hearing disembodied crying sounds from the ghostly infant. However, at the Lonely Bridge in Westminster, folks claim that a woman drowned in the river and that she haunts the location as a result. Some pieces are missing from the story, however, including, most significantly why she drowned in the river. Further, why is this bridge known as “Lonely Bridge”??
