The Old Rialto Theater in Alice, TX is a hot issue right now. The theater is decaying somewhat since it was closed down in the 1980’s and many citizens are upset about its homely appearance. It was a beautiful addition to the community in 1939 when it was originally constructed. Today, locals claim that it is haunted by more than just rats and pigeons.
Those who have gone inside the building claim to have seen shadow people in the upstairs corridors. Eerie feelings of being watched and cold spots have also been reported in the building.
The Pea Farm is sometimes confused with the Caddo Detention Center and vice versa. The Pea Farm, otherwise known as “The Old Jail” is overgrown and surrounded by fences. It is located on West 70th Street, approximately 2 miles outside of Watertown between the city of Greenwood and Bert Kouns. Locals recommend visiting the location in the winter months when the foliage isn’t as dense and it’s easier to see inside the fence.
Locals claim that the pea farm was used as a prison, but it was shut down due to the excessive number of beatings and murders that occurred on site. There are a number of bodies said to be buried at this location. The prisoners who took up residence here were required to farm the land. According to some stories, prisoners who were unable to grow food on the parcel of land they’d been given, were not allowed to eat.
Visitors have reported hearing disembodied voices and cries. It isn’t unusual for visitors to hear the sound of footsteps when no one else is in the building. Full bodied apparitions have been spied in various places at the Pea Farm.
Alice Lake, also known as “The Reservoir” is said to be haunted by a little girl who drowned in the lake. Some visitors report hearing the far away sound of the little girl screaming for her mother.

The Caddo Detention Center and The Pea Farm get confused. Both are located in Shreveport and both are reportedly haunted, but the Caddo Detention Center is on the north side of the city while the Pea Farm is on the west side of the city. The Pea Farm is no longer in use and thus overgrown with weeds while the Caddo Detention Center is still maintained and in use today.
The Caddo Detention Center is located near N. Market and Hearn Avenue in Shreveport, LA. Go to the Vo-School and then head north past the 12 mile bayou. The road will curve north/northeast. Look to your left for a building with a reddish color. This is the CDC.
Though it is still in use today, there are plenty of horror stories and tales of paranormal activity at this location. The state took ownership of the CDC and it functions as a substance abuse center now. Staff and inmates have reported strange occurrences including the presence of shadow people, disembodied voices, and apparitions.

The Kisatchie National Forest in Louisiana is said to be haunted by restless Native American spirits, but it was also the site of a brutal murder in 2013.
The Northwood Kisatchie National Forest is located in central Louisiana. As its name suggests, it is a forested area, one of the largest natural and untouched areas in Lousiana. Locals claim that disembodied sounds and voices have been heard in the forests. Apparitions of Native Americans have been observed in the trees. Some people have also heard the far-off sound of drumming sounds and singing when no one else is nearby.
According to KSLA News, a 25 year old man named Tony Procell was abducted by Robert Barthelemy on August 20, 2013. The kidnapping occurred at Procell’s home and was captured on video. Both Procell and Barthelemy were members of the National Guard and Barthelemy was a member of the Natchitoches Police Department. They had apparently gotten into a dispute over a female.
Five days after Procell disappeared, his body was found in Kisatchie National Forest in a shallow grave near the edge of Saline Lake. Barthelemy and Procell had hunted together in this area in the past. Cadaver dogs found Procell’s body, but the face had been so badly injured by blunt force trauma that specialists had to be called in to reconstruct it for the funeral.

The Ellerbe Road School, known once as the George Washington Carver High School, near Shreveport, LA.
The Ellerbe Road School, also known once as the George Washington Carver High School was originally opened in 1957. Due to financial problems, the school closed down again by 1973. Although there are rumors that there was a fire at the school and several students were killed, this has not been verified by our research.
After the school closed down, it was vacant until 1981 when the property was leased for use as a Baptist Christian College. The college closed four years later in 1985. Since that time, the property has been abandoned except for some livestock. The building is currently slated for demolition.
Some locals claim that a janitor at the school molested some students there. One day, the janitor and a few of the students were inexplicably missing. What happened after their disappearance remains a mystery.
A water tower on the Ellerbe Road School property is used as a divining pool at times by brave souls who climb the rusty ladder (which is not recommended, by the way). The reflection in the pool of water seen by peering into the top of the tower is said to provide an account of the viewer’s death day.
Still other rumors say that people practiced black magic on the premises. Some locals claim that the campus was the site of a Civil War battle.
The school is located in Caddo Parish, Louisiana on Ellerbe Road.

The Haaswood Cemetery is said to be haunted by Onionhead, a disfigured fellow who either witnessed the death of some children in a fire or killed them himself. Onionhead is rarely, if ever actually spotted by visitors to the cemetery, but many are still spooked by his presence according to locals. His disfigured head is the result of a disease.
Interestingly, the Haaswood Cemetery is also known as East Union Cemetery. “East Union” sounds very similar to the word, “Onion”. Just sayin’.
This haunted cemetery has been cleaned up a bit and it is in fair condition now, according to some locals. The cemetery is old and there are many graves that are unmarked.
Onionhead has also been reported in Camp Salmen Nature Park, Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, and the Greenwood Cemetery. The tale is similar in some respects to those told of “Melonheads” in Ohio and Connecticut.
To get to Haaswood Cemetery, travel north from Slidell along Highway 11. Continue toward St. Joe and then turn right onto Haaswood Road. Follow the road to the cemetery. Or, take an alternate route by turning onto St. Joe Road. Continue for 1.5 miles to a grated road and then turn left. Continue for about .3 miles.

This is one of the iconic haunted places in America! The Griffin House has even scared derelicts and drug addicts away. Now it is owned by a very normal family as a private residence. Ask for permission before attempting to investigate this property!
The Griffin House was built as a private home in 1852. It was occupied by Union forces as barracks and a place for munitions storage during the Civil War. The first soldiers who entered the house found maltreated slaves chained down upstairs. Some of these slaves even had maggot-infested wounds. The slaves were taken to a field hospital.
Two Confederate soldiers were taken hostage and kept at the Griffin House after they were caught looting. Often, Union soldiers would sing John Brown’s Body (a song popular during the Civil War era) to these men. The two Confederates got ahold of pistols after they decided to commit suicide. While lying facing each other on two different mattresses in an upstairs room, they took aim, one at the other and shot each other. The wounds were inflicted in the heart. They bled to death within minutes, their blood oozing through the floorboards and down the walls in the room below.
Visitors to the Griffin House have heard the song John Brown’s Body being sung by disembodied voices. Some have even reported seeing the apparition of Civil War soldiers singing this song.
People have reported hearing rattling chains in the upstairs rooms as well as moaning and groaning sounds. The disembodied sounds of boots marching across the floor is also commonly reported.
A concrete block was thrown at one visitor who vowed never to return to the Griffin House.
Drug addicts and derelicts occupied the once abandoned property for a period of time, but fled due to the presence of the ghosts and disembodied voices!

This photo of Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery was retrieved from http://thenoladaily.com/odd-fellows-rest-cemetery-very-odd-indeed/.
The caretaker of this cemetery purportedly witnessed the apparition of a Lady in White and a man wearing a three-piece suit. This haunted cemetery near New Orleans was founded in 1849 by the Order of Odd Fellows and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The first sixteen bodies in this haunted graveyard were moved from other cemeteries. All the plots were filled by 1930. Due to the slightly higher elevation of the cemetery, it has been immune from much of the flooding that has plagued other areas near New Orleans.
This haunt is one of the least visited and most dilapidated cemeteries in New Orleans. Gravestones are overturned and shattered and tombs are slowly crumbling away. Many of the bones have been removed and some of the tombs are just an empty shell with nothing inside.

O’Flaherty’s Irish Channel Pub, now The Original Oyster Factory is a well known haunt in New Orleans.
O’Flaherty’s Irish Channel Pub closed down after Hurricane Katrina, but tales of ghosts and haunting experiences continued on! In August of 2013, The Original Oyster Factory was slated to move into this haunted New Orleans pub which has been fully renovated.
Two of the previous owners of O’Flaherty’s are said to haunt the building. One of these ghostly owners is said to be eternally in search of something while the other lingers due to unrequited love turned sour (he killed his secretary and himself after she refused to have an affair with him). The ghost of the secretary and the wife of one of the owners make their presences known from time to time. The ghost of a young boy also haunts the building.

The Morgue Bar and Lounge was a unique pub in that it was once a New Orleans mortuary functioning during the horrific Yellow Fever epidemic in 1853. Ten thousand people died in 1853, their bodies passing through this mortuary on the way to the grave. The Morgue Bar and Lounge has been closed for some time. Some people report that the building is now used as a private residence. Other online forums say that the building is now used as a haunted house known as The Mortuary, but this haunt is located at a different address from the one listed for The Morgue Bar and Lounge.
The Morgue Bar and Lounge building was originally built in 1849.
New Orleans locals report that the mortician’s daughter often makes a showing in main bar area. She has been known to move objects, especially from the ladies restroom.
The Shadowlands web site reports that bodies were stacked in the women’s room, but the veracity of this statement is suspect. During the Yellow Fever epidemic, bodies piled up everywhere. It’s unlikely that the women’s restroom was the only place in the building used for storing bodies, since it was, in fact, a morgue.

The Village Cemetery, located on Bay State Road in Rehoboth, MA, dates back to the 1600’s. It is haunted by at least three apparitions. The most notable is probably that of an older man in eigtheen century clothing, who is seen sobbing and laughing near at one particular grave in the Southwest corner. He is known to yell obsceneties at people, particularly women, and scare them away . One woman was so frightened that she fled the cemetery and as she was driving away, she saw him kneeling over a woman in Victorian garb, pounding her with his fists and shouting the name ‘Catherine.’ Other witnesses have reported an old man screaming and pounding on their car windows. There are also reports of a floating woman in white and a little boy moving about the tombstones.

Bartonville State Hospital, also known as Peoria State Hospital or Illinois Hospital for the Incurable Insane was originally built in 1897 but the original building was never occupied because of structural problems. It had been built on top of old mine shafts that had collapsed, so the building was torn down and Dr. George Zeller, a pioneer in the mental health field at the time, oversaw the rebuilding of the new hospital. The new hospital was reopened in 1902; it was built using a cottage system and there were 33 separate buildings which housed patients. There were also a store, a power house, a nurse building, a laundry, a bakery, a kitchen and even a power house on the hospital grounds. The most revolutionary feature of the hospital was it’s lack of window restraints or bars. Not using these was unheard of at the time.

There are many headless ghosts in Louisiana and one of them is said to walk the Greenwood Cemetery in Greenwood, LA. Disembodied voices and strange sounds have also been reported at the cemetery. This isn’t surprising given the history of the location.
Maybe because this is the only truly French state in the Union, Louisiana haunts seem to attract ghosts that are missing their heads. Another headless ghost walks the levees of Chalmette Battlefield and though there are no headless ghosts reported at Headless Cemetery in Eunice it makes sense in an odd way to label the cemetery “Headless” just because it’s in Louisiana.
Greenwood Cemetery was once the site of Stoner Plantation as well as a Civil War military hospital. A single cross in the middle of Pauper’s Field marks the site where poor folks were given a free burial. There are no burial markers on this small plot of land at Greenwood Cemetery, but the graves are numbered.

In 1903, the Hancocks lost their 24 year old daughter, Irene. She was buried with Ethyl in the Greenwood Cemetery tomb. The Hancocks moved to Los Angeles, CA with their only surviving child, Milton Hancock, Jr. In 1905, the 16 year old was driving a car that was struck. The Louisiana State Capitol building is located in downtown Baton Rouge. The House of Representatives, Senate, and the Governor all carry out their business in the building. The building has 34 stories. It is the tallest building in the city. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is also a National Historic Landmark.
The first state capitol building was completed in 1882, but it proved too small by the 1920’s. A new Louisiana state capitol building was completed in 1932 thanks to encouragement from Governor Huey Long. In September, 1935, Huey Long was shot in the State Capitol building by a man named Carl Weiss. Weiss was then gunned down by Louisiana State Police. Long lingered for two days before dying at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital on September 10th.
On April 26, 1970, a bomb went off in the Senate Chamber. The bomb was made up of 20 to 30 sticks of dynamite. It was detonated in retaliation for the death of 3 African Americans who were shot by police. The only evidence of the explosion today is a pencil embedded in the ceiling.
A congressman or senator is said to haunt the Louisiana State Capitol building. Known as “Pierre”, according to Shadowlands, this ghost tends to linger upstairs.A more likely ghost would be Carl Weiss or Huey Long.
Security officers have reported motion sensors going off when no one is on the upper floor particularly in the middle of the night. Video cameras show no sign of anyone, but still the motion sensors are triggered. A female security guard claims to have seen an apparition and several tour guides have reported seeing doors opening and closing on their own.
