Fort Jackson has a dark past which is probably why people often report seeing ghosts and apparitions. The haunted fort is located 40 miles up the river from the mouth of the Mississippi in Plaquemines Parish, LA. Fort Jackson was built between 1822 and 1823. It was the site of an American Civil War battle; the Battle of Forts Jackson and St Phillip which took place between April 16 and April 28, 1862. After the battle, the site was used as a Union prison. In 2005, it was damaged badly by Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita.
