One source said that a car accident that killed three cheerleaders happened in 1966 at the intersection of Highway 98 and Imperial Avenue in Calexico. According to this report, the girls who were killed were Christina Padilla, Joanne Bowser, and Betty Brandenberg. They were on their way home from cheerleading practice at Calexico High School. Apparently, when this accident happened, there were no stop lights at this intersection and the other driver ran the stop sign. The girls were driving a volkswagon bug.

The apparition of a cheerleader has been reported at Calexico High School. According to students, the cheerleader was traveling back from an out-of-town football game and perished in a car accident, which is why she is often observed on or near the football field.
Strange, unexplained noises as well as doors slamming without explanation, and lights flickering on and off are other paranormal events that are said to occur at Calexico High School regularly.
