Capitola is located in Santa Cruz County on the coast of Monterey Bay in California. It is a small community of about 10,000 people.

The Historic Capitola Theater was demolished in 2010. The Capitola Theater had been a landmark in the community since 1948. The theater had been vacant since 2005. After demolition, the site was to be used as a hotel.

Visitors to the Capitola Theater have reported hearing strange noises and disembodied sounds when there is no one in the building to make these sounds. They report that from time to time it sounds as though there is a crowd of people in the building when there is no one else there at all.
