The Chase Home for Children was founded in 1877 as an orphanage for children in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Today, the Chase Home functions as a residential program for at-risk children as well as a home-based family preservation program for families.

The Chase Home for Children has been at its current location since 1917.

Ghosts and the Paranormal at the Chase Home for Children in Portsmouth, New Hampshire:

The apparition of a young girl walking in the hallways has been reported. Those who see her say that as soon as she is approached she runs down the hall and disappears.

Disembodied screaming sounds have been reported in the girls dormitory late at night. Disembodied footsteps have also been reported.

Kitchen staff have reported that on one occasion, they were discussing ghosts and paranormal phenomena that was taking place at the Chase Home. At this time, the lights suddenly shut off and the ceiling fans turned on, though no one was near the switch.

Doors purportedly unlock themselves, without explanation at the Chase Home in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
