Alva is located in northern Oklahoma near the Kansas border and the Oklahoma panhandle. It is the county seat of Woods County, Oklahoma along the Salt Fork Arkansas River.
Alva was establisehd in 1893. Today it is a small community of about 6,000 residents.
Cherokee Strip Museum Information:
The Cherokee Strip Museum was established in 1961 to preserve the history of both Woods County and the “Cherokee Outlet”.History and artifacts from the local World War II Prison of War Camp is displayed at the museum.
The Cherokee Strip Museum is located in the old hospital building, consisting of 2 floors and an annex building, a barn, and an old school house. There is also farm equipment on display at the museum.
