Canyon Lake, California

Canyon Lake is located in Riverside County, California. It is one of five gated communities in California with about 11,000 residents.

Canyon Lake was formed in 1927 after Railroad Canyon Dam was built. It covers 383 acres and has about 15 miles of shoreline.

Information about Dana Sue Gray, Serial Killer:

Dana Sue Gray murdered three elderly women in 1994. She was caught after the fourth victim survived and was able to identify her. She apparently killed the women in order to support her spending habits.

Dana Sue Gray is currently imprisoned at the California Women’s Prison in Chowchilla, California.

According to one source, Dana Sue Gray murdered her first victim, Norma Davis (age 86) at the condos on Indian Beach in the gated community of Canyon Lake in 1994. Norma Davis had a utility knife in her neck, a fillet knife in her chest, and a broken fingernail. A bloody afghan was laying at her feet. A smear of blood was found on an armchair on the first floor of the condo.

June Roberts, Gray’s second victim, also resided at Canyon Lake. She was strangled with a telephone cord. Dana Gray then stole her credit cards and went on a shopping spree.

Dorinda Hawkins was Gray’s third victim. Gray strangled Dorinda with a telephone cord also, but Dorinda survived and was able to describe Dana Gray to the police.

Dora Beebe was Dana Gray’s final victim. She was 87 years old and also lived in Canyon Lake.

The residents of Canyon Lake were terrified during Dana Gray’s rampage. A number of them moved in with loved ones until they were able to find the murderer. A group of elderly widows began sleeping together in big groups at designated houses to keep themselves safe. A number of them believed the murders were being committed by a cult engaged in ritual sacrifice.
