History of Gregory, South Dakota:
The Gregory Poor Farm Cemetery is located northeast ¼ mile and northwest ¼ mile in Gregory, South Dakota.
Before the 1800’s, the Arikara and Ree Indians lived in the Gregory area. Sioux Indians took up residence there sometime after until the 1850’s when they were relocated to reservations.
Gregory is a small town in Gregory County, South Dakota. It is home to about 1,300 residents. Gregory County was opened for settlement in 1904.
The Gregory Poor Farm Cemetery was created in 1915 for the poor and the aged. In 1935, when Social Security became available, the Gregory Poor Farm Cemetery was no longer needed. By 1938, it was closed.
