Houdini’s Mansion Information:

Houdini’s Mansion is, according to one source, not really Houdini’s Mansion. The folklore around this building seems to have evolved after the building caught fire and stayed vacant for several years. One reason why its possible that this myth was born is because of a tenuous connection that people have fabricated between Houdini and the actual owner of the house. The house was owned by R.J. Walker, who was rumored to be friends with Houdini. Some people claim that Walker bequeathed the house to Houdini before he died. But Houdini’s name doesn’t appear on any of the ownership documents. Essentially, this theory is far-fetched.

Harry Houdini’s wife did move into a house around the corner after Harry died, which may have contributed to the perpetuation of this rumor that the old abandoned and burned down house on Laurel Street was Houdini’s.

Not to say that the house listed here as Houdini’s Mansion isn’t haunted. It might be haunted. But it certainly isn’t very plausible that the mansion was Houdini’s.

Ghosts and the Paranormal at Houdini’s Mansion:

Visitors at Houdini’s Mansion have reported hearing the disembodied footsteps of a ghost wandering through the building. They have also reported seeing apparitions in the garden grotto and standing on the staircase of the old abandoned building.
