The Keatchie Women’s College began operations in 1856. It functioned as an all-women’s school until 1879 when it began admitting men as well.

Located on Highway 172 (Mansfield Road), the old Keatchie Women’s College was converted into a military hospital during the Civil War. Cold spots and disembodied sounds of suffering soldiers have been reported at the location.

From Logansport, LA, follow Highway 5 until you reach Highway 172. Turn left onto Highway 172 and continue to Keatchie. After you get into Keatchie, contineu 200 yards past the old white building to the old women’s college. This old white building was not a part of the original college. None of the original buildings associated with the college are still standing. The grounds are situated in the midst of a residential area.

Just down the road from the college is a cemetery filled with Confederate soldiers.
