History:

Mears Junction was named for either Otto Mears, who once had a toll road along this route, or it is named for Dave Mears who traveled with Lt.Marshall across the pass in 1873. There was once a water tank that provided service to the railroad at Mears Junction. The Mears Junction Railroad was abandoned in 1950.

Paranormal Activities Reported:

Train engineers and conductors reported seeing the apparition of a young child playing in the woods near the train back in the days when the train was still running. Also, people east of the old abandoned railroad bed have reported hearing the disembodied voice of a child singing. According to one story, a young girl got off the trail in 1894 to walk in the woods with her brother. She never returned and was never found.
