Meridian, Mississippi

Meridian is located in Lauderdale County, Mississippi. It is the sixth largest city in the state of Mississippi. The population is around 40,000 residents.

The city of Meridian was established in 1860 where the Mobile and Ohio Railway and the Southern Railway of Mississippi converged. In the Battle of Meridian, during the Civil War, much of the city of Meridian was burned to the ground by General Sherman. It was rebuilt following the war and became the largest city in Mississippi between 1890 and 1930.

Merrehope Information:

Merrehope is one of two antebellum homes in the Meridian area that is open to the public. Most of the antebellum homes were destroyed in the Battle of Meridian during the Civil War.

Ghosts and the Paranormal at the Merrehope in Meridian, Mississippi:

The ghost of a man who took his life in the home has been reported. Folks claim to hear disembodied footsteps in the upstairs bedroom of the Merrehope Home in Meridian, Mississippi. The ghost of a young woman has also been reported. Her apparition has been seen from an upstairs bedroom window where she herself is glowing or she is seen holding a candle.
