Mount Saint Mary School History and Information:
Mount Saint Mary School was founded in 1903 as an all-girls school by the Sisters of Mercy. The all-girls school became co-ed in 1950.
The first Mount Saint Mary School was established in 1884 in Indian Territory near the present day city of Shawnee, Oklahoma. That school burnt down at which time the Sisters decided to relocate their operations to the Oklahoma City area. The cornerstone for the current Mount Saint Mary building was laid on December 12, 1903. It served as both a day school and boarding school.
The “new wing” of the school was added in 1959.
Ghosts and the Paranormal at Mount Saint Mary’s School:
Students at Mount Saint Mary’s School report seeing the ghost of a nun walking on the fourth floor of the building. The third and fourth floors are, according to some reports, strictly off limits, but students have found ways to sneak into these areas. Beds from days when Mount Saint Mary’s was a boarding school are sitting on the fourth floor, neatly made, but covered in dust.
Some students note that the floors on the upper levels are dangerously weak. Get permission before visiting the upper floors!
