The Story:

According to school lore, two years after the Overland High School opened, one of the students invited a younger sibling to watch a musical from the catwalks. Purportedly, there was a couch precariously balanced between two catwalks. The student left his young sister on the couch and instructed her to stay there during the performance. But during the performance the girl has to use the bathroom, tried to crawl down from the couch, and fell sixty feet and died on the stage (Shadowlord, n.d.).

According to Shadowlands, there is still a couch balanced between two catwalks and students dare each other to go sit on the couch (Shadowlord, n.d.). This information has not been evaluated for historical accuracy.

The History:

Overland High School was opened in the late 1970’s (Frieler, 2008). It belongs to the Cherry Creek District and operates as a college preparatory school.

Aurora, the city where Overland High School is located, is the third most populated city in the state of Colorado. It was originally named Fletcher, CO after the real estate tycoon who founded the city. In 1917 when Donald Fletcher abandoned the community, leaving residents in a pickle, the city was renamed Aurora. (Wikipedia, 2008)

The Haunting:

According to Shadowlands, turning off the theatre lights and sitting on the couch will provoke disembodied sounds of a girl crying for her mommy and sounds of footsteps on the metal (Shadowlord, n.d).
