The Pontchartrain Hotel is one of many haunted hotels in New Orleans.

There are said to be at least 25 different ghosts haunting the Pontchartrain Hotel. Two sisters are the most well-known ghosts to make a showing, although a royal countess in very elegant clothing has also been spied in the hallways. The apparition of an old man makes his rounds through the haunted Pontchartrain as well, searching for “Meagan”. Elevators are said to stop inexplicably at different floors when no one is on them. There are cold spots in the hotel as well. But the creepiest tale about the Pontchartrain Hotel is that vampires take lodging there. Visitors claim to have encountered this undead souls on their way to late night parties in the French Quarter.

The building was constructed in 1927 on St. Charles Avenue in the Garden District. It was named after a member of LouisXVI’s court, the Count de Pontchartrain.

  1. This place is absolutely haunted. We stayed in suite 410. The bell hop told us that suite 910 was haunted. We went up there many times and stood next to the thick wooden door. EVERY time there was frank Sinatra style music playing inside. One late night we were riding in the elevator( the one that goes the extra floor up). There was a very dapper young man and woman in the elevator. They said they were staying in suite 910. After they got off it struck me that they were out of place and time. I’m pretty sure they were ghosts in solid form. I kid you not!!! Also our first night there my daughter and I jumped out of bed about 3:00 in the morning because it was loudly storming. Only to find it was not raining at all. It sounded as if water was running inside the walls. It was so loud it woke my sister up. Never heard it again in 4 days. Another thing was the shower. One day hot was cold and cold was hot. You never knew what to expect. We would leave the shower running till everyone showered. Because you didn’t touch it when it was just right.
