South Carolina

South Carolina was one of the original 13 colonies that later became the United States. The proprietary colony of Carolina was first settled at Charles Town (Charleston) in 1670.

South Carolina was also the first state to declare secession at the beginning of the Civil War.

Woodruff, South Carolina:

Woodruff is located in Spartanburg, South Carolina. It has a population of about 4,200 people.

Settlement of this area was first earmarked by the records of The Church of Christ on Jamey’s Crrek. The earliest of these records are from September 18, 1787. Today, “Jamey’s creek” is off McArthur Street behind the Woodruff State Branch Bank on North Main Street. It is known to locals though as “Jimmie’s Creek”.

Seven Devils Bridge:

Some people in Woodruff say that the old bridge (a new one has been built near where the old one was) was used to hang seven slaves, thus the name “Seven Devils Bridge”.

The Seven Devils Bridge is located near the Price House, which is at 1200 Oakview Road in Woodruff. The old bridge was only able to be crossed on foot, but sources today seem to indicate that the new bridge can be driven over by cars.

The Ghosts and Hauntings at the Seven Devils’ Bridge in Woodruff, South Carolina:

Locals claim that crossing the Seven Devils Bridge at precisely midnight is a traumatic experience and those who do it go mad, at least temporarily.

Some people also claim to see greenish colored lights off in the distance while sitting at Seven Devils Bridge.
