The Shellman House Information:

Jacob Sherman is thought to have built the Shellman House in 1807.

David Shriver and his family lived in the house until 1812. During this time several tragedies occurred. One young girl who lived with the Shrivers fell ill with “bilious collick”. His wife Eve, who may have suffered from epilepsy, had a fit and fell such that her face was burnt on a hot stove while living in the Shellman House.

For a short period of time during the early stages of the Civil War, Confederates took over and occupied the Shellman House as their headquarters from 6:00 PM- midnight on July 9, 1864.

Restoration and renovation of the Shellman House began in 1988.
