Ghosts and the Paranormal at the Main Street Bridge in Wheeling, West Virginia:
Wheeling locals claim that the Main Street Bridge is haunted by a man who was trampled to death by his own team of horses. Apparently the poor man jumped down from his wagon to repair a loosened hitch which spooked the horses. Locals have seen the ghost of this man, walking the bridge, asking if anyone has seen his horses. He disappears suddenly after speaking with them.
In the 1840’s, a contractor for the Main Street Bridge was walking along the scaffolding to make sure that is was in good condition. The scaffolding collapsed, and the man was swept away by the Ohio River current. The man’s body was never found. Wheeling locals claim to encounter his ghost along the bridge from time to time, however.
